Suomenkielinen versio: Mitä tekivät suojelusenkelit?

Inspired by the accident of MS Estonia and subsequent operations by priests to reap positive PR for the church by it.

What did the guardian angels do?

Cold water filled the last mouths. Mouths that had desperately, with all the passion of life, reached upwards to gasp some air. But the last remains of air had already vanished, there was only dark water remaining.

Some had cried god for help.

God that allowed the storm to rise, god that let the water flood in. God that did not even move his little finger when the waves tore away ship gate. Some were crying for help from god that was observing the panic on the dark corridors, that was listening to the weeping of mothers and children. God that seemed to be satisfied with these scenes of horror.

A god more evil than the devil.

A compassionate god would not play in such a cruel way with the suffering of his own image. A loving god would not ignore in such a horrible way his creation. "Even a hair will not be taken away from your head without his approval." Without his approval your lungs will not be filled with water. This god seems to allow extremely disgusting things.

Just like this god did not exist at all.

Death does not come to these people quickly. Death comes slowly, full of self-satisfaction, enjoying its inevitability and power, enjoying the horrow of people. Destroying life, vanishing dreams, taking away blossoming youth. Removing from this world lots of love, hope and faith. Death does not ask questions, does not consider its judgement, does not show pity even for small babies.

And their god they believe to be the master of death.

The dying do not remain to testify how their prayers were disappearing to the roar of the ocean. The dying do not remain to tell how their faith turned into horror and suffering. The dying gurgle, inhale water and turn blue. Their hearts stop beating, their thoughts extinguish in the darkness. The mothers grip of their babies loosens.

Still no god comes to save them.

The dead have died, it is time for comforting. Some seek comfort from god, the same god who fed their loved ones to the fishes. They are crying about the powers of the satan and the weakness of their understanding. They listen to the sermons of their priests and they say to each other: "nothing must break our faith - only faith gives us strength to sustain." Daddy is executing half of his children and the remaining run crying to him to seek for comfort. Does the belief in this kind of god really give them strength to sustain?

Their understanding is indeed weak.

They fail to understand the magnitude of the lie on which they have built their contradictory belief. They badly want to believe. Their god says in his good book: "I will crush them, one against another, both fathers and children. I will not have mercy, not pity and not forgiveness... I make them eat their sons and daughters flesh, and they will eat each others flesh in their distress and anxiety." How well these descriptions fit this black day, how well they describe their god! Truly this day has not seen any pity or mercy.

But they want to believe in a compassionate heavenly father.

And only for a short moment the though of being mistaken is creeping to their minds. Only for a while are their minds filled with questions and confusion that are threatening their faith. Only for a short while - since they want belief more than understanding, peace of mind more than open eyes. They are scared and their fear corrodes reason out of their heads.

They believe while the flesh is rotting away from the bones of their beloved.

Even the guardian angels did not do anything.
